a few days ago i decided to contect RS to find out the prices on their SVD models. low an behold a few minutes ago i found a nice little email from them in my inbox with a sexy little price inside. apahrently, 2 models are available(models with an M90 spring and models with an M120 spring) and they are:

488USD

before shipping and without the scope...

that's a *****ing nice price.

here's the whole email:
RS SVD has been accepting pre-order. The first batch of it only has 500pcs all over the world.

If there is no RS distributor in you region, do not worry, you can buy it from RS directly.

If you want to make a pre-order, please offer us your specific information (your full name, address, telephone number and effective e-mail address).Besides, how many and which type? RS SVD has S181 and S181-S?

In order to thanking supports and trusts to RS from all players, RS give a discount on RS SVD for players to buy. The price for RS SVD is only USD 488 (without Scope), but not including freight, customs, bank charges and insurance and so on.

There are two versions of RS SVD, M120 and M90.

As for the PFS, here’s the statistics from our testing record for your reference.

...to judge off of other RS prices for rather small weapons compared to the SVD... I'd like to say $400...

Wow, I am good at guessing prices. :D

Wow, they really made this affordable for the average airsofter. I did not expect them to make such a low price for sucha beautiful rifle.

Edit did anyone notice that the fps's are the same for .20g and .25g bb's?

Yes, somehow with the same spring they got 1.44J and 1.8J... odd.

i've done that befor and it didnt go the way i planned so i just cut to the chase so i wouldnt piss anybody off.

jarry, remember, ligheter bbs hit with a lighter force.

what i dont get is the FPS readings. the heavyer bbs should be flying slower... i call typo! it was a chick who wrote the email...

Joules are units of energy, not force. Since firing the BB is just an energy transfer, it should have the same energy.

wut? i want completely sure what joules are, but i thought it ment how hard they hit. i guess im wrong, but whatever...

maby they ment the typist missinturprited the info she was given and changed the muzzle velocity instear of the muzzle energy...

wait, am i still using the wrong terminology?

Physics again.

Kinetic energy is one half the mass times the velocity squared.

Ke=1/2MV^2

Energy is in joules. Mass is in kilograms. Speed (velocity is actually different from speed as it is a vector) is in meters per second.

Lighter BB's don't hit lighter, they just have less inertia (the closest tangible thing to inertia is mass). They can hit just as hard if they had the velocity.

Edit: Yeah, technically force and energy are not the same thing. Force is usually in Newtons while energy is usually in Joules. I also believe energy is a scalar since it describes the magnitude and force is a vector since force has direction.

I believe it's the one with a sidefolder skeleton stock and polymer furniture.

Yep. Energy's a scalar, which makes life a LOT easier when you're constructing equations of motion.

But I was actually expecting RS to put a $700 price tag on this thing, meaning it would go the way of so many other really cool replicas we've always wanted (VFC BAR, WA M4, etc.) But now, I can actually see myself getting one in the near future, if my schedule ever frees up enough so I can play airsoft...

so dont pay any attenchon to it. if a mod could delete the posts involved in the physics discussion, thatd be cool.

To delete the posts related to physics, which may not seem relevant, would mean I would have to delete like... all the replies in this thread. haha. I had the same question, but didn't feel like doing the physics. I think the physics in this thread should be left. :) helps explain the statistics left by the chick. The fps definitely cannot be the same when the bb is heavier.

Can someone possibly convert the fps so that the numbers are right?

Spring

Muzzle velocity

0.2g
1.44J It's actually 1.45J rounded up, but oh well.
m120
395fps That's 120.396 MPS, so the M120 spring really is M120.

0.2g
0.81J That's correct.
m90
296fps That's 90.2208 MPS, so the M90 spring really is M90.

0.25g
1.8J That'd be 1.81J if they'd used three sig-figs like before.
m120
395fps

0.25g
1J That's be 1.01J if they'd used three sig-figs like before.
m90
296fps

Best wishes,

Jassimine

I guess that RealSword has made the springs to their own specs so that they would live up to the ratings in their own guns.

What I don't get still is how the same spring (say M120) gets two different energy ratings with two different weight BB's (1.44J for 0.20G and 1.8J for 0.25J). Could they have made two different M120 springs?

Converted so that the 0.25G BB's speed matches the energy.

0.25g
1.44J
m120
352fps

0.25g
0.81J
m90
264fps

Norinco, I actually appreciate your input on physics. It helps me to understand what they are selling. I wonder what kind of upgrades it will take?

Thanks. I find that knowing everything in and out makes everything a lot easier. Two things I do a lot of are cello playing and shooting. I learned to service my guns and rework cellos. If you understand how something works, you could use it better and also not have to get help whenever an issue arises.

I was just kidding, I actually find your physics input helpful in most cases. Anything I don't understand, I google, so... hehehe.

Good. It helps to know what your BB is doing after it leaves the barrel. If only real steel ballistics were as simple, but no, you have to take into account air density, ballistic coefficient, gravity, wind, barrel harmonics, and then terminal ballistics. Unlike in airsoft, hitting the person is not enough, the bullet has to do certain things on its way through the target. I've tried to calculate trajectories before while deer hunting, but I was like "**** this, I'm just holding off for wind and then shooting, a .30/06 does enough damage."

It's not THAT heavy, probably about $70.

But is the $488 the MSRP for the US? Or for Hong Kong?

The prices of the other RS guns are same here as in Hong Kong. The $488 may apply here (depending on what kind of mood the US retailers are in).

thanks
